I guess faith is liberating to a degree, as long as it's associated with will power. He Who Rides the Pale Horse is such a powerful character. One of my favorites.
I've never seen faith as something exclusively religious, you can believe in yourself and the things around you without relating it to a god. But then again, I suppose He Who Rides the Pale Horse is sort of a god as he reaps souls.
